About Us
Sailaway Sailing School is operated by the Connecticut Yankee Council, BSA a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening communities through Scouting programs for girls and boys that build character, teach leadership and instill a commitment of service to others.
The Sailing School
Located at Captain's Cove Seaport on the historic Black Rock Harbor, our summer sailing program teaches girls and boys ages 10 to 14 the fundamentals of sailing and how to safely manage small boats. The school is a place for young sailors to learn and hone their skills while developing a better understanding and respect for Connecticut's great natural resource - the Long Island Sound.
Want More? The summer Sailing School is a complement to our year-round, co-ed Maritime Explorers, Sea Scout and Venturing programs.
Maritime Explorers
The Maritime Explorer Club is a special-interest BSA program that offer girls and boys ages 10 to 14 experiential learning, adventure and career exploration. The club’s activities emphasize sailing skills, boating safety, and discovery of the maritime industries & sciences.
Big Boat Adventure
Sea Scouts is a co-ed program for youth ages 14 to 20 who want to experience the adventure of sailing bigger boats while learning and working together as a team. Come explore the Long Island Sound aboard our fleet of 30 to 40 foot yachts. Learn about seamanship, underwater ROV technology, navigation, boating safety, maintenance and more. It might even lead to a career in the maritime industries or sciences. All while making friends and having fun!
