Program Manager
The Program Manager works with the Director to oversee the summer sailing program. In addition to helping to prepare and open the school for the season the Program Manager will coordinate the weekly schedule and be a key point person for communications with the staff, students, parents and guardians. The Program Manager is a team leader with a positive attitude who is able to constructively resolve issues. The ideal candidate for this position is a responsible individual with the maturity to ensure safety standards are maintained and protocols followed. Must be comfortable working in a waterfront environment. Sailing or Lifeguarding experience is a plus. Manager Application
Sailing Instructors
Sailing Instructors are the primary leaders of the school's daily sailing lessons and activities. As such you will work with the Program Manager and your fellow Instructors to plan and implement the sailing program for our students. You are also responsible for maintaining safety protocols at all times. Candidates for this position must be experienced dinghy sailors and competent driving a 16 foot motor boat. The ideal candidate will be 17 years or older, US Sailing Association Level 1 Certified and have a CT Safe Boating Certificate. INstructor application
Counselors
The main job of a Counselor is to tutor 2 to 3 students during the daily sailing lessons. You will sail in the boat with the students, help them learn to rig, handle and sail the boat and help them follow the directions provided by the Instructors. You will also help the Instructors to set up and break down the boats the at the beginning and end of the season. Counslors must have prior dinghy sailing experince, be at least 15 years old, be a capable swimmer and have a CT Safe Boating Certificate. Counselor Application
Counselors In Training (C.I.Ts)
The Counselor-In-Training (C.I.T.) position is an unpaid learning opportunity for our most advanced sailing students. The goal is to refine your sailing skills while learning how to be a good Counselor. If you do well as a C.I.T. it is our hope that you will return in future years to work as a paid employee. As a C.I.T. you will be scheduled for certain classes and weeks of the summer sailing program. On the days you are working as a C.I.T. you will sail in the boat with the students, help them learn to rig, handle and sail the boat and help them follow the directions provided by the Instructors. To be selected as a C.I.T. you must have prior dinghy sailing experience, be age 14 or older, have a positive attitude and be a capable swimmer. It is recommended that C.I.T.s also register for our experienced sailor lessons for at least part of the summer season and volunteer as a C.I.T. for the other part of the season. You can also gain valuable knowledge and experience by participating in the Sailaway Maritime Explorers Club. The Club offers year round opportunities to learn additional relevant skills such as advanced sailing techniques, first aid and the CT Safe Boating Certificate. Click the "C.I.T.
